Pocketbooth

Cost: $0.99

Developer: Project Box

What the Developer Says:

Turn your iPhone or iPod touch into a vintage photobooth with Pocketbooth: the photobooth that fits in your pocket.

Pocketbooth perfectly replicates the intimacy, spontaneity, and hilarity of a traditional photobooth. Take it to your next party and watch as your friends’ inner-divas emerge.

And with new AirPrint capability, you can complete the photobooth experience by printing your strips directly from the app. (requires compatible device and printer)

Meticulously designed to emulate the experience of a 1950s-era Model 11 Photobooth, Pocketbooth is as beautiful to look at as it is fun to use. The interface makes taking self-portraits a snap – even if you’re using the rear-facing camera.

Features:

✔ AirPrint enabled (print directly from app with compatible device and printer)
✔ Compatible with iPhone 4, iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS, and the 4th-gen iPod touch
✔ Choose between front-facing or rear-facing camera (note: only iPhone 4 and 4th-gen iPod touch have a front-facing camera — all other devices utilize only the rear-facing camera)
✔ Now uses flash (rear-facing camera of iPhone 4 and iPod touch)
✔ Share photostrips via Email, Twitter, and Facebook
✔ Automatically saves strips to the app but can also export them to Camera Roll
✔ Customizable with different effects (b&w, color, sepia, antique), pose options (3-pose, 4-pose) and paper stocks (glossy, matte)
✔ Laugh-out-loud fun!

What I Say:
The application is the kind that will definitely catch your attention if you’re into taking pictures. For people who love photography just for the heck of it, you will find this no doubt entertaining—from the moment you start posing and taking pictures to the time you see the photostrips. For the professionals who are nostalgic about old-school photography, you will probably appreciate this app that gives your picture the vintage look you love.

In my experience, the app crashed once after I have adjusted the settings but nothing major. I was able to launch and use it again without any problem. I recently updated the app and mine now has antique effect and border options. Yesterday I was trying to upload some of the photostrips to my Facebook album and failed. I don’t get why. I suppose it has something to do with the size of the image, or with the way I was uploading it—I saved it first in my computer before uploading it on Facebook instead of using the direct upload feature of the app.

Overall, the application is fun, clean and simple to use. It doesn’t take an Einstein to get what it requires to take great pictures. Also, it is appropriately priced—not free since it’s worth buying anyway and not too expensive.

Final Verdict: Rocks!
